Giving students, teachers, and parents an edge in dance education

About @danceadvantage (Follow me on Twitter)

Welcome!

twittericon-twitterThanks for checking out @danceadvantage, my Twitter home, and for wanting to find out a little more about me and my site.

Some Facts About Me:

  • My name is Nichelle and I live in Houston, Texas, although I originally hail from Pennsylvania.
  • I blog about dance here at Dance Advantage! (See below or read About Dance Advantage)
  • I have been dancing since childhood, developing a deep passion for expressing thoughts and ideas through movement, crafting dances, and passing on my knowledge and love for the art of dance.
  • I hold a bachelor’s degree in dance from Slippery Rock University (or Slimy Pebble as it’s fondly known).
  • I have over 16 years of teaching experience and have been a dance instructor in dance studios, community programs, and at a major university.
  • I continue to perform in contemporary dance ensembles.
  • I am happily married (and have been for over *gasp!* 12 years) and I have one young son.
  • Since my son’s birth I have essentially been a stay-at-home mom, however I still dance and teach on a project by project basis, and I write about dance… a lot.
  • I love to read fiction and am in a book club.
  • My family is very musical. My mom’s a singer and my brother and I were both drum majors in high school. (I was also in the color guard and quite proud of it, thank you!) :)
  • I love theatre and I have choreographed many musicals. My husband and I met doing community theatre, in fact. My favorite roles so far are Chava (Fiddler), Jacqueline (Murder on the Nile), and Nikki (Sweet Charity).
  • I love movies.
  • I love U2.
  • My favorite color is green (and I’m a Libra, in case you’re wondering.)

Some Quick Facts About Dance Advantage

  • Dance Advantage is for dance educators, students, and parents.
  • I began Dance Advantage to share my thoughts about dance education with others. Knowing that most teachers never have time to say all that they want about dance, technique, dance history, and the dance world, I sought to offer a resource in which those pursuing dance could both discover new things and solidify concepts.
  • Articles for students range in topic from tips and advice for refining technique to spotlighting dancewear or products.
  • Teachers can find information for dealing with behavior issues in class, enhancing one’s classes, and locating resources for dance on the web.
  • Parents can find posts on what to look for in quality instruction, how to make the most of their child’s dance experience, and where to find dance-related gear and gifts.
  • I also highlight news and reviews within the dance world, offer links, and recommend resources that will benefit those pursuing or studying dance.
  • Dance Advantage also has a sister social network called Dance Advantage Interactive that gives dancers and dance enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with one another.

The Benefits of Following Me on Twitter

Witty remarks and banter aside, you may be interested in following me because…

  1. All of my blog updates are immediately posted as a tweet so you’ll know when new articles are available.
  2. I frequently post news items, websites, and other dance-related stuff that won’t make it to the blog.
  3. You’ll get to know me and a little bit about my life, something that does not always come across in the blog. I tweet about my day, my family, mom stuff, what I’m reading, and more.
