You’ve reached the disclosure page. It has to be here because (are you sitting down?) not everyone online is honest and forthcoming. A shock right?
Therefore, on this page you’ll find some of the legal stuff about how this blog is monetized. You can jump to the disclosure statement now, but in my words I’d like to share why I monetize and a little bit about how I do it.
The Short…
I’ve been where you are – a student, a teacher, a parent searching for dependable content online. I’m also an extremely ethical person. But since (most of) you don’t know me, it won’t hurt my feelings a bit if you choose not to click on the ads or affiliate links on this blog.
If you DO find this site useful. If it helps you, makes something easier, or if you are just glad it’s part of your dance landscape, please do click and purchase! Because when you click and make purchases from our advertisers and affiliated sites, you are helping to support the FREE content offered here at Dance Advantage, and the person who works daily to provide it.
And Long…
WHY I Monetize
It is my desire to offer the highest quality information possible, the kind of information of which I would want to be on the receiving end. I do my best to share products and services relevant to the readers of Dance Advantage in a way that is open and that I can feel good about. Continually putting out content for which people want to come back, I’ve found, takes more than a volunteer’s effort, time, and perhaps even skill. In fact, the level at which I address all aspects of this website, from content, to email responses, to fielding requests, equates to work! It is work that I enjoy! And like most work that
- Is worth doing,
- Takes time out of daily life and away from family,
- That provides a service, has value, and benefits others… I would like to get paid to do it.
Sure, I could put in less time – there’s always that option but enough positive feedback from readers encouraging and wanting more, communicates that my efforts have value within the dance community. So onward… I explore where the continued elbow grease will take me. There is a ton of free content here and I aim to keep that flowing.
HOW I monetize Dance Advantage
- I participate in affiliate programs. Affiliate programs are a popular means of blog monetization. When a reader clicks to a retailer or service I’m affiliated with via a link on my site and buys a product or products there, I get a percentage of the sale. Depending on the retailer this could be anywhere from 4% to 50%. This does not affect the cost of your purchase but it does subsidize this blog. Affiliate links on this site will usually appear in a text link but may also be attached to an image.
- I accept sponsorship in the form of advertising on the blog and the blog’s feed. You’ll find 125 x 125 ads in the blog’s sidebar. In the RSS feed, sponsors will be listed as such below the feed content. Sponsored posts will occasionally appear as on-site advertisers are entitled (per their advertising agreement) to an introduction in the form of a post letting readers know about their company and product. Sponsored posts will always be marked as such. If you are interested in purchasing ad space click here.
- I accept sponsorship in the form of sponsored giveaways. Giveaway sponsors provide prizes for contests and pay a sponsorship fee to participate. Each sponsor receives a post on the site – an “advertorial” if you like, but the content is generated by me from questions asked of advertisers about their company and the giveaway product. — In the past, reviewed products were given away on Dance Advantage but this policy has been replaced with giveaway sponsorship. Reviews will no longer be associated with giveaways. However, giveaway advertisements may occasionally sound like editorial/opinion because if I have direct experience with a company or product I’m apt to talk about it. Every effort will be made to disclose any financial relationships, however. If I am in any way affiliated with the company, I do my very best to make it clear in the text.
Other forms of compensation received may include sample and review copies and barter for services.
Affiliate text links may or may not be marked as such. Often, I mention when I’m an affiliate because I’m proud of it. You can typically identify an affiliate link by hovering over the link and looking at the URL that appears at the bottom of your browser.
When you see the word ‘sponsor’ this means I’ve received compensation from the retailer (see #2 and 3).
I share many links, sites, and products with which I have no affiliation and receive no compensation, both on Dance Advantage and via social networks. If I think it’s helpful to my readers, I share it. The sites which benefit from my mention of them may decide to reciprocate with intangibles such as links, mailings or banners on their own site. Some of them do eventually become sponsors.
A note on opinions and reviews
