Giving students, teachers, and parents an edge in dance education

How To Promote on Dance Advantage

I’m a busy dancer, writer, and mom. I receive press releases, emails, and newsletters daily – many from folks that want to appear in a post on the blog. I’ll admit, I typically bypass any email that does not immediately strike me as having a connection to dance education (the primary focus of this blog) or an obvious benefit for my readers.

Want me to consider featuring you?

It’s simple… take the time to briefly explain to me how your service/product/performance/website might be relative to the readers of Dance Advantage. Be specific!

What you should know about Dance Advantage to determine if promoting here is right for you.

Available Opportunities

Submit a Guest Post

Consider the audience at Dance Advantage (dance students, parents, teachers) and write about a topic that would not only be informative, useful, or inspirational to this group but also related to your work.

Occasionally I’ll accept opinion pieces from sources I know and respect but what I’m typically after is a post that is going to teach or answer questions that a reader may have. For companies that stand to benefit from exposure on this blog, you must offer my readers something of value even if those readers cannot or will never do business with you. Without that level of value, the post ends up looking only like thinly veiled advertising. Of course, it IS advertising but customers will already probably assume you are selling them something. They are more likely to do business with a company that is educating the community or enriching their experience in dance. I understand that this may be more work than you are willing to put in and that’s perfectly fine, however that is the standard that I wish to uphold on this blog.

If you have an idea for a guest article, please review the guest post guidelines and contact me. Here is an example a guest article.

Submit An Article Proposal

If you feel your expertise, company, site, service, news or event is something my readers should know about (i.e. newsworthy), contact me and propose an idea for an article. Be specific! I generally contact those I would like to interview for a story. However, if you would like to share your site, service, or product link with me, use the contact form below. Placing SHARE in the subject line, increases your chances of my getting to your link.

  • I want to find the teachable moments in your story such as introducing an unfamiliar dance form or highlighting the historical significance of your performance.
  • I want to provide
    • teachers with resources that support them in their work,
    • students with tools for improvement and further education,
    • parents with information that will help them navigate the dance world and assist their children.

Arts Organizers, Please Do Not…

submit your performance press release for publishing on this site.

I get many requests for event promotion, however, I generally stay away from these posts on the blog because they only apply to a small portion of my global audience. In order to maintain the blog’s focus on dance education and subjects relevant to the majority of my readers (i.e. those studying dance or training dancers), I must unfortunately say no to direct promotion of localized events.

Your event can be covered. However, the article cannot be about the event (though it may include these details should they be relevant to the wider context of the piece). Instead, the article must be focused toward a subject that will broaden its value for a wider audience (even if they cannot attend your event). This might be written by, or be an interview with, someone involved in the event. I do conduct interviews but please understand that I cannot entertain all requests. You might consider submitting an article as a guest post that is in keeping with the goals of this site. See also: guest post guidelines

If you use Twitter, find me there. I often and willingly ReTweet interesting dance events!

Ask me to Review/Giveaway Your Website/Service/Book/Music/Product

I will review those websites, services, or products which I feel are directly relevant to my readers. I charge no fee for this. If you do not want an honest review, please don’t ask me to review your product! Click here to download my Review/Giveaway Policy (pdf). To suggest your product for review, contact me and place REVIEW in the subject line to ensure I receive your request.

Advertising

Dance Advantage offers site-wide 125×125 advertising slots in the sidebar as well as feed level text links. Learn more here. I am also an affiliate advertiser for a few organizations, spotlighting their work when I can in relevant posts and on my resource pages.

I am committed to accepting advertising only from companies or products I feel I can legitimately support and recommend to readers. If you think that your site, service, or product may be beneficial to my readers, please consider inviting me to review your product or comping a membership to your site or service.

Other Opportunities

Join Dance Advantage Interactive

Create a profile at DA Interactive, a social network for the readers of the blog and other dancers, artists, and educators. Your profile is customizable and you can upload photos, video, start groups, write blogs (great place for a press release), and create events which have an invite/rsvp feature. New blogs, events, etc. are listed on the main page of the website, viewable by anyone visiting DA Interactive.

Interact with me on other Social Networks

Find, befriend or follow me at Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and other social or dance-related networks. I often pass along, “retweet,” and feature events, news articles, and other dance-related items at these locations. I am much more likely to feature and promote on this blog people/organizations with whom I interact. Don’t underestimate the power of these social networking tools. If you do not yet have an account on some of the above sites, I highly recommend considering their use for marketing and promotion.
