Thanks so much for the help! I really needed to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about. :D But then I have another question to my solo dance: do you have any ideas of what I should not do since I am alone and maybe some tips on what I have to focus on? I don't mean to nag, it's just a bit hard to learn everything by myself. Please understand.

Yea, I think I see what both of you are talking about for the name there. What I meant about Insomnia, Nichelle, is that I want to express the fact that I prefer to dance instead of getting enough sleep. But I really liked your idea! And, thinking of my abnormal way of thinking, I'll use that instead so the audience will understand better. :)

Thanks so much for your help, Nichelle and Leon!

Thanks Leon, that's exactly what I meant. Louise let me know if you have further questions on the concept of engaging with the audience = never dancing alone.

As for the crew name, I'm definitely no expert on the genre but I do spend time, well, titling things!! lol I just felt that your two words didn't have a clear relationship so fans may not quite get that the words mean something to you in regard to your dancing. Something that jumped out at me though is that the word Insomnia or Insomniac (meaning habitual sleeplessness) shares some similarity with the word Soma or Somatic (which means 'of the body' - dance is a somatic practice)... anyway, what about putting these together somehow? Soma Insomniacs or Insomatiacs - ha ha ha! Ok that last one looks and sounds like a typo but hopefully you get the idea. ;)

Dance and dream out loud!!

Hi Louise, what Nichelle meant with “Never dance alone, even in a solo”, is that aside from 'being aware of other dancers in your group' (which you won't have to do, of course, in a solo), you have to involve your audience in your performance. After all, it is for them that you're dancing; I mean you are performing the piece for them. So you have to involve them, meaning you engage them with your dancing, so that they will "actually experience" your performance -- instead of just talking to their seatmates or thinking about thoughts other than your dance.

Hmm... I hope you get what I mean. Haha!

As for your crew name, personaly I think it's a little tacky. But hey, who am I to judge. What I think, or what other people think, shouldn't matter. It's your crew. If it's what would describe it best, then go with it! I bet you'll be more happy dancing under a crew name that you really like. :)

Hi! First I want to thank you for the good tips! :D They really helped me to improve my dancing. But I have one question about that first one, "Never dance alone, even in a solo". What if I'm doing a dance performance all alone (which I am)? You see, even if I really, really want to have a dance crew, I have to dance alone. It's simply because we either have one single dance school/class where I live. :/ I am also the only dancer here except of four others, but they just do breakdancing for competitions. I dance some jazz, a little ballet, pop and some hip-hop as well, every single day. I do it because I can't resist the urge to have such a condensation with the music and my body. :) That's one of the reasons why I can't make a dance crew with them... Sigh.

Ah, when I'm first asking, do you think "Ravenous Insomnia" is good for a dance "group"name? I think I want to use that because I think it's catchy and it represents my passion for dance and how much time and efforts i put in my work. People use to ask me how I improved my dancing so fast and I answer, "If I had used my time to be social instead of dancing, then I would have been the most social person in the whole school." Sorry for being so out of subject. :/ I just had to ask. ^^

Thanks once again for your help! :D

I am not the dancer, my daughter is but I just want to say that a dance is really more of an expression of thoughts and emotions and when you put your heart into the dance, it just looks so captivating. Thanks for sharing this, I will definitely let my daughter read this too!

Nichelle, thanks a lot for this. Very insightful and very helpful. All the lessons you posted here is exactly what I needed as I am currently attempting to help myself and the rest of my crew improve. I want us to perform on a whole new level.

Will try to break this down into our language. Hope it will work.

Cheers!
