I don't mind, Heather. Thank you for asking and for wanting to credit me/the site. You might even try the 'Print the PDF' link toward the bottom of the article (if clicking it doesn't work the first time, try again - I've noticed it can be finicky). I hope it's a help to you and your parents! Thanks very much for reading and for the congrats :)

Hey Nichelle,

Congrats on your little one! Enjoy this amazing time. Do you mind if i post part of this article in the studio, I will give you credit of course? I think it is wonderful. I still teach many of the baby/toddler classes and separation is ALWAYS an issue. In my experience children seem to get more worked up when they know their mothers come running everytime they cry, eventually they use it as a tactic to get what they want. I try and explain to parents they are not allowed in the classroom because it is a distraction to the other students and to try and give their daughters some time to adjust. I reassure them they can trust me and there are any real concerns I will call them in immediatly. I'd love them to see this article to try and get a better understanding of my policies and why I implement them. I think everything was very well stated and exactly how I feel.

Yep, I really think cameras are a good compromise. They're not intrusive for the class but it gives parents the opportunity to see what's going on. And, your solution (it seems) didn't require hundreds of dollars in wiring or closed circuitry. I think that's a concern for studio owners when one starts talking technology, but cameras are a relatively inexpensive solution. Thanks for your input, Debbie!

We have had many complaints in the past because of not having a viewing window for the younger classes. Then one day totally out of the blue , I thought what about our old movie camera , hooking it up for classes . We always do this for our recitals why not the classes as well. Well the parents are certainly much happier , but they do say something if it isn't hooked up also .
