Dance Lover,

I am glad you found the article helpful. I suppose there are some that might argue with the 3 hours of specifically ballet per week. However, having worked at many studios, I’ve found that generally ballet class is the primary source of technique in this setting, while classes in other dance forms focus more on choreography and style. Technique is the foundation of strong dancing and the time spent focusing on this is important for anyone wanting to be a professional. Even though the icing may be equally important to the taste and look of the dessert, you’ve got to bake the cake in order to layer it with icing (expression, performance, artistry, etc.).

Best of luck to you as you pursue dance! Let me know if you have other questions.

Great article! I am in my early teens and I take dance, but when you mentioned the "under 3 hours a week" thing, I realized I did not dance at pre-professional center. This made me a lil sad :(, so I think I am going to enroll in the pre-pro program at my dance center. Thanks for all the info!!
